If you're an avid Skype user, you definitely have the desktop client for Windows installed on your computer, no matter if you're running Windows 7 or Windows 8.

This particular version of the client received another update today, but Microsoft hasn't provided too many details on what is new, so it most likely comes with bug fixes and performance improvements aimed at all Windows editions currently on the market.

Skype for desktop still runs on Windows XP, the OS version that no longer receives updates and security patches, as it officially reached end of support on April 8. Windows 8 and 8.1 users, on the other hand, can also download the Metro version which runs in the Modern UI and is completely optimized for the touch.

Microsoft hasn't provided any details on this fresh release, but expect the company to reveal the improvements it made to Skype 6.16 in a couple of days, as it's most likely preparing a blog post on the matter as we speak.

Overall, everyone should update to the new version as soon as possible, so download Skype 6.16 for desktop right now to see what it brings new. Keep in mind that it only works on the desktop of the supported Windows versions, including XP, Vista, 7, and 8.
