Skype is pleased to release Skype 5.4 Beta for Mac, a new version of the popular IM and chatting client that now allows users to conduct a Facebook-to-Facebook call from the app’s interface.

You can also see your Facebook newsfeed in Skype Home, and there’s also the ability to view your Facebook friends' online status, and make video calls directly from within Skype.

Skype devs managed to fix an issue with skype names ending with period and the Spanish version of the app (would not launch, says the change log).

Unfortunately, there are still some bugs that need ironing out (it’s a beta release, after all). These include an issue on OS X Leopard where users can’t press number keys on keyboard to generate touch tones, and switching from video to screen sharing during group video call may not work. There are workarounds for both. Check out the full documentation here.
