Skype has once again updated its popular Android software application that allows users to make free voice and video calls over 3G or Wi-Fi.

The next iteration of the application, Skype 2.5 adds more supported smartphones and enhanced video experience for those who own compatible devices.

Unfortunately, video calling for Android 2.2 Froyo devices is still not supported, which means users will have to upgrade to Android 2.3. Gingerbread to be able to use their front camera for video chats.

Given the fact that Froyo does not allow apps to access the front facing camera, only the back camera will work.

Android 2.5 for Android brings more video improvements, as users will now be able to easily switch between portrait and landscape mode during video calls. In addition, zooming in with a simple double tap on the screen is possible as well.

According to Skype, support for Bluetooth headsets has been improved, while lots of bugs have been corrected and performance enhancements have been done to further improve the user experience.

With Skype 2.5 users will be able to edit and delete IM messages and weird bug that made the application restart in the background after signing out has been fixed as well.

The following Android smartphones and tablets have been added to Skype support list: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, HTC Nexus One, HTC Shooter, Sony Ericsson Xperia Live with Walkman, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V, LG Optimus Black, LG Optimus 3D, LG Optimus 2x, Motorola Photon, Motorola Droid 3, Motorola Bionic, Motorola XOOM, Motorola Atrix, Acer Iconia.

Furthermore, Skype plans to introduce an advertising platform with the new release of Skype, which will not be displayed to users that have Skype Credit, a Calling or Skype Premium subscription.
