Today, Skype announced the release of a new flavor of their mobile application for devices running under the Symbian operating system, namely Skype 2.0 for Symbian, which a nice range of new features included into the mix, complemented by fixes and new features. Some of the features that were introduced in the new Skype release for Symbian, we can count a Contact finder, the possibility to update Skype status automatically using the calendar, or to make emergency calls via PSTN.

The new version of Skype for Symbian was made available for download via the Ovi Store, but can also be found on Softpedia, here.

Before hitting the download link, users should keep in mind that the application comes with a series of issues that could affect the experience they receive from it. They should also make sure that their device is among the supported ones.

The application can be users on Symbian^3 handsets like Nokia C7, Nokia N8, Nokia E7, and Nokia C6-01, as well as on S60 5th Edition phones, including Nokia 5800, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia N97, Nokia X6, Nokia 5530, Nokia 5230, and Nokia C6.

Contact finder

You can now find out which of your friends in your phone's contact list are using Skype. In addition, you can show their phone numbers in your Skype contact list.

Send contacts

You can now share your contacts with other people on Skype.

Update Skype status automatically using your calendar

You can now set Skype to automatically change your online status to available/busy depending on your calendar status.

Make emergency calls via PSTN

In case you need to make emergency call and try to do it in Skype, it will now be routed through the PSTN. This feature works only on Symbian^3 devices.
