The development team at Toys for Bob and publisher Activision announce that the new installment in the Skylanders franchise is called Trap Team and will be launched on October 5 in North America and October 10 in Europe, allowing gamers to capture villains and then use them for a series of new quests and adventures.

The two companies explain that Portal Masters will be able to capture the most powerful enemies of the game and use special physical Traps to bring them into the real world.

Gamers will explore a new game world and as they defeat villains, they can use a special elemental Trap placed on the new Traptanium Portal to listen to dialog from the characters as they now fight for the side of good.

A new Tag Team feature also means that Skylander fans will be able to mix heroes and villains in order to combine their abilities and powers.

Eric Hirshberg, the chief executive officer of Activision Publishing Inc., states, “With Skylanders Trap Team, we’re no longer just letting kids bring their toys to life inside the game anymore. This time, we’re letting them pull their toys out of the game as well. We are confident this instalment of Skylanders will once again redefine what’s possible at the intersection of the physical and virtual worlds.”

Richard Barry, the executive vice president and chief merchandising officer at Toys’R’Us, adds, “When Activision first introduced the Skylanders franchise in 2011, it promised to redefine play by merging the physical and digital worlds. The company delivered on that pledge with three blockbuster titles – and is now poised to do it again with the introduction of Skylanders Trap Team.”

The retail chain will offer an exclusive line of Legendary figures associated with Skylanders Trap Team.

The story of the new content will be centered on Kaos and his attempt to use the powerful villains from Cloudcracker prison to create his own army that can dominate the entire world.

The developers are promising that a series of new environments will be introduced and that the range of challenges that gamers will need to deal with, from puzzles to combat and platforming, will be significantly expanded.

Skylanders Trap Team will be launched on the Xbox One from Microsoft, the 360, the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the PS3, the Wii U, the older Wii and the 3DS.

All those interested can place a pre-order for the new game right now and some retailers are offering special deals.
