Glenn Oliver, a developer working on the new version of Skylanders, says that the new Swap Force toys will be launched in smaller groups all through 2014 in order to give fans more occasions to get to the store and pick them up.

He tells Polygon that, “This year we’ve expanded to a year-round franchise, meaning we’ve reserved more characters for 2014 than we normally would.”

A new version of the Skylanders franchise is under development at Toys for Bob and it will be introduced in the fall. It will be focused on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, with unique features that use next-gen console power.

Skylanders is facing tough competition from Disney Infinity and Activision is keen to keep details about this year’s version of the toy and video game mix a secret for as long as possible.

Clear details will probably be offered around E3 2014.
