The success of the Skylanders toys and video game has been big enough to surprise Activision, the company that published it.

Noah Kircher-Allen, who is a product specialist working at Activision, has told VideoGamer that, “When you launch any new IP you always hope it’s going to be big.”

He added, “We had very high hopes for it, but it far exceeded our expectations as far as how hot it was. As far as toys to software, it was maybe two or three times what we thought it was going to be. It was a lot higher than we anticipated.”

Skylanders allows players to collect real-world toys that can then be connected to a video game.

The sequel is called Giants, will deliver a number of bigger creatures and will be launched later during 2012.

Activision also has plans to create a television series and other media features linked to Skylanders.
