Make or break friendships and romances at the home base

The relationships in Dragon Age: Inquisition, both those of friendship and romance, are going to be fleshed out while roaming around Skyhold castle, the main base of operations for the players of the upcoming role-playing game from BioWare and Electronic Arts.

Dragon Age: Inquisition allows players to take on the role of the Inquisitor, who's leading a force to stop a world-ending event. While you'll be able to go on quests, adventures, and all sorts of interesting missions while assembling a party and further increasing the power of the Inquisition, the game doesn't forget about the relationships that can appear between players and their virtual allies.

Skyhold plays a big role in the game

A key area in which friendships and romantic relations will flourish is Skyhold, the castle that becomes the Inquisition's base of operations. While players will be able to take part in the metagame by commanding the forces of the Inquisition, they'll also be able to interact with their different allies, ranging from party members to advisors.

All these characters will start living in Skyhold and inhabit different areas, such as Leilana the archer sitting in the rookery, while Sera is roaming the tavern.

"You get to see their spaces become theirs – they kind of personalize them," BioWare's Mike Laidlaw tells GameInformer. "Some degree of their demeanor comes through, like Dorian with a massive leather-backed chair."

By roaming around Skyhold, players can start talking more easily with their allies, thereby learning more about them, but also following the desired romance path.

"A lot of our fans missed the ability to interact with their party members and close friends, and just say 'Hi, how are you?' like in Origins," he says. "Many of them will be delighted to know that that is back, full force, in Skyhold. You walk up, 'Hey Varric, how’s things? Tell me about Kirkwall.' Getting a sense of their character, digging in. You can just go, 'Plant one on me,' which is pretty satisfying in a weird way."

Non-party members can also be romanced at Skyhold

What's more, at Skyhold players can also interact with their advisors, such as Cullen or Josephine, which aren't available during missions or battle, but can be romanced depending on the player.

As such, while most of Dragon Age: Inquisition's gameplay revolves around epic battles and intense adventures, virtual friendships and relationships can be made only at Skyhold.

The new role-playing game is set to appear this November for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms. Expect to hear much more about its characters and mechanics until then.
