A new version of the Skyfire mobile browser for devices running under Google's Android operating system has been made available for download, namely Skyfire 2.3 for Android.

Released in the Android Market with full version number is 2.3.1.19478, the new Skyfire release comes with a wide range of enhancements and fixes, it seems.

According to the release notes available on Skyfire's website, some of the main enhancements included in the new release are aimed at devices such as Droid X and Droid 2, as well as at the Android 2.2-based HTC EVO 4G.

A series of streaming performance issues for Droid X and Droid 2 were fixed, while the overall streaming performance for all FroYo devices was improved, the company states.

Moreover, it seems that the owners of a HTC EVO 4G smartphone on Sprint's airwaves should enjoy proper Streaming support with the new release of the browser, as the development team “found a workaround for EVO device specific issue.”

Bug fixes included in the Skyfire 2.3 release include:

- Startup Crash: For some users, Skyfire would intermittently force close startup. Fixed. - Battery optimization, especially when Skyfire is in background - Samsung Galaxy S: Better support for Flash 9 to co-exist with Skyfire Toolbar. - Find on page: functionality fully working now - Exit Skyfire in Android 1.5: On Motorola Backflip and HTC Magic it is now possible to properly exit Skyfire via a long-pressing the ‘back’ key.

But this is not all, it seems, as other enhancements are also there, including improvements related to video playback start time, as well as enhancements regarding the overall video streaming reliability in the software.

“Video playback: We improved our overall video streaming reliability, thus you should see a much lower occurrence of video timeouts with this new version. More enhancements are in the works, so video reliability will continue to get better,” the company announced.

The new Skyfire 2.3 for Android also comes with resolved issues related to some APIs YouTube changed in late July, as well as with better preservation of the original page URL when switching between Android and Desktop mode of a page.
