A new beta version of the Skyfire for Android mobile browser is now available for download. Released as version 2.2.0.18794, the new app flavor comes with a nice range of improvements over the previous release, Skyfire 2.1, while also including bug fixes and other enhancements more. In case there are some yet unfamiliar with what Skyfire can offer to users, we should note that it comes with support for Flash, with the possibility to render desktop versions of websites, and that it also includes a toolbar UI for easy and fast access. The video below should offer a few more details on the matter.

As for the new Skyfire 2.2 for Android, it comes around with novelties like (via dailymobile): - GeoLocation Support. Skyfire now supports the HTML5 GeoLocation feature. Thus, for example, Google and other web pages that use the location feature will be fully working. - Vertical Search Results. When searching with Skyfire several result options are available, such as Google, Videos, Trends, Twitter and Amazon. We will add more providers from time to time, so send us feedback. - Set as Default Browser. For Android 1.5 to 2.1 Skyfire supports setting the default browser option within Skyfire. Unfortunately, Android 2.2 does not provide that option.

Other enhancements are also included into the mix, some related to the Android 2.2 FroYo platform, such as a series of fixes for interface and crashes issues. The browser sports Flash 10.1 related enhancements too, like fixes to a series of UI overlap and background audio issues, aimed at offering a better browsing experience. The video start sequence has been upgraded, and a disable standard Zoom buttons option was included in the browser, along with Pinch to zoom for HTC devices and with fixes for crash and force close related issues.

Of course, not all issues with the browser were fixed, including the fact that Hulu does not work. According to the company, this is due to the fact that “Hulu does not have the rights to support content for mobile devices and thus is blocking Skyfire.” Another known issue with the browser would be the following: Finding videos and 25% stuck issues. Supporting videos from millions of websites on the Web is not a trivial undertaking. We are getting better and better at it and support more than 100,000 websites and counting.”

Another major upgrade for Skype should emerge in the near future, the company announced. Skyfire 2.2 for Android can be downloaded from the Android Market.
