Microsoft has updated the Win32 flavor of the app last week

Windows Store, the application portal through which Windows 8 users will be able to find and download Metro-style applications for their computers, now lists a brand new SkyDrive application.

The same as with other software available through the portal, the new app was supposed to be designed in line with the WinRT principles, but it seems that it actually links to the Win32 app that Microsoft pushed to users last week.

The guys over at LiveSide managed to find the app in the Windows Store, and it sent them not to the setup of the Metro-style SkyDrive software, as expected, but to the desktop version of the app, which is available for users of other Windows platforms as well.

Apparently, this is the first time a Win32 app emerges in the Windows Store, though it should not be the only one.

In fact, Microsoft has already announced that it would have apps built for the desktop listed in the Store, and that they will take users to the download pages on their developers’ websites.

No similar software was previously spotted in the app portal, yet Microsoft appears to have started to test the feature as the official launch of both Windows 8 and Windows Store approaches.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the SkyDrive app for desktop was designed to create a new, synced folder on user’s PC, in which all files and folders in one’s SkyDrive appear.

To add new content to SkyDrive, users need to simply copy it to said folder. It also offers support for uploading files of up to 2GB.

In Windows 8, a Metro-style flavor of SkyDrive will also be available, which also enables users to easily view and access files in the cloud.

The desktop flavor of SkyDrive, which was updated only last week, is available for download from Softpedia as well, via this link.
