Polish developer Infinite Dreams has just released its new and improved smash hit from 2004, Sky Force, on Android and iOS platforms. The classic arcade shoot ‘em up title was among the most popular PDA games 10 years ago, the more reason for mobile gamers to be happy of its comeback.

Dubbed Sky Force 2014, the game now features stunning 3D graphics, optimized controls for touchscreen controls and a powerful upgrade system.

The latest title in the series puts players in the cockpit of a lone fighter who battles across vertical shooter levels. Sky Force 2014 offers the same recipe as all arcade shoot’ em ups out there, so expect huge boss fights at the end of each level, along with a complex upgrade system.

The latter will provide players with the opportunity to improve their weapons, shields, missiles, bombs, star-collecting magnets and more.

“Sky Force has been the jewel in Infinite Dreams’ crown for a long time, and it’s a franchise we care very deeply about. We knew we had to create something extra special to celebrate the game’s 10th anniversary, and we’re very proud of how Sky Force 2014 has evolved,” explains cofounder Marek Wyszynski.

But that is not all, as developers announced there will be weekly tournaments taking place on unique new levels as players battle it out against hoards of other Sky Force 2014 players.

Winners will receive great rewards not only for being better at the game, but also for rescuing other pilots who have already been taken down.

Should they wish it, players will be invited each week to go head-to-head against friends and other Sky Force 2014 players in unique, high-octane tournaments.

According to developers, these matches are to take place on brand new levels and even allow players to rescue their fallen opponents to gain extra lives, stars and more.

“Although we worked hard to make sure Sky Force 2014 meets all the expectations that fans have after 10 years, it was important for us to deliver something brand new to the experience as well.

We wanted to give the game a social element that didn’t conflict with the scrolling shoot‘em’up concept. We’re incredibly excited to see the reactions to the new weekly tournament system that we’ve developed to meet this need,” concluded Wyszynski.

Sky Force 2014 is a universal app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and it is available for free via App Store. Android players can now download Sky Force 2014 for free through Google Play Store. It should be compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.1 and up.
