Skullgirls, the sprite-based 2D fighting game from indie developer Reverge Labs, has finally gotten a release date and will appear on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles next week.

We’ve seen quite a few fighting games appear recently, with most of the big franchises offering current generation installments.

Independent games studio Reverge Labs wants to break into the genre with the clever little Skullgirls title, which delivers a classic 2D fighting game experience with sprite-based characters.

After a pretty long time in development, the game is now ready to be released. The studio has confirmed, via NeoGAF, that it will be out on the Xbox 360, via the Xbox Live Arcade service, on April 11 for 1200 MS Points.

While a PlayStation 3 release date isn’t nailed down as of yet, Skullgirls will most likely appear on April 10 for a price of $14.99/€14.99.

Hopefully, we’ll get to learn some more about the game until then.
