Skullgirls Encore, the recently re-released fighting game from Lab Zero, has just received the first details about its third all-new character for the game, Eliza, as well as confirmation that Fukua, the April Fool’s fighter introduced this month, will make it into the game on PS3, not just on PC.

Skullgirls became quite successful some time ago thanks to its great visuals and the really responsive fighting mechanics that delighted those looking for a really rewarding experience.

Due to a problem with its publisher, the game was re-released at the beginning of the year as Skullgirls Encore, and developer Lab Zero pledged to release five more DLC characters after a really successful crowdfunding campaign.

After launching Squigly and Big Band, the studio has revealed on PS blog that the third planned character is called Eliza and will deliver a pretty different set of powers and locations for the game, all centered around Egypt, mummies, and pharaohs.

"Eliza’s concept is that she is a 'mummy of flesh' – in place of a skeleton, she hosts a Parasite named Sekhmet, who can even leap out of her body and fight in her stead," the studio said.

"Eliza’s blood control powers lead to some really creative attacks, with blood hippos erupting from the ground to sanguine wings carrying her into the air. Eliza’s attacks and animations are brimming with references to Egyptian mythology, such as her summonable bodyguards, Albus and Horace, who are based on the Egyptian gods Anubis and Horus."

Eliza is still in development, but a screenshot of her in action can be admired above.

In the following weeks, another free update will appear for Skullgirls Encore on PS3, delivering a bonus free character, in the form of Fukua.

Fans will remember that Fukua was actually Lab Zero's April Fool’s joke, which started from a typo of existing character Filia and even used frames and mechanics from that fighter. The end result, however, was a totally different experience that resonated with fans, apparently, in the PC beta.

"We let our fans decide if they wanted to keep a clone character like Fukua in the game, and the answer was a resounding 'Yes!' So since her April Fool’s debut, we’ve been testing her in the PC beta, tuning and improving her, and preparing her for primetime," the studio explained.

As such, PS3 owners will also be able to enjoy Fukua as part of another free update that will appear in the coming weeks.

Besides Fukua and Eliza, two more fighters will appear as DLC in the future for Skullgirls Encore.
