The storage feast has begun!

There are only four days to go until Macworld opens the gates, and things seem to get really hot in the Mac world from now. I guess you are as tired as I am of hearing about updates, patches and new software versions, so I must say that it was a real pleasure to find out about a new hardware release. In fact, it's not a single release, but six!

Storage! Yeah, storage, what an interesting topic - the sizes and transfer rates keep going up, while the price per megabyte goes down, down, down! Yesterday, LaCie announced its planned presence at Macworld in San Francisco at booth #S2226, where you will be able to check the six new storage solutions designed especially for Mac users. What should you expect to see?

Well, the new products introduced yesterday are LaCie's d2 Blu-ray Drive, Quadra Hard Drive, d2 SAFE Hard Drive, Ethernet Disk mini & Ethernet Big Disk, Ethernet Disk RAID, and FireWire Speakers. Four of these devices feature LaCie's rack-mountable d2 case design made from an aluminum alloy, but each one has a different functionality, from biometrics to networking.

While the Blu-Ray drive is available for preorder and is priced at 1,150$, the other products are already shipping - Quadra and d2 SAFE hard drives cost 300$ each, Ethernet Disk mini & Ethernet Big Disk cost 200$ and 500$, while the FireWire Speakers will take 80$ out of your pockets.

The external Blu-Ray drive is available for both Mac and Windows systems and comes with Roxio burning software and dual FireWire/USB interfaces, being able to handle 25GB and 50GB Blu-Ray discs, as well as all available types of DVDs and CDs. The storage solutions have capacities up to 1TB for the Ethernet discs, but can go even higher when using the RAID Ethernet Disk RAID, depending on the drives you will use (up to four drives are supported).

If you want to see and of course hear what's new from LaCie, just remember to visit booth #S2226 at Macworld Expo!
