Next iPhone to look the same, future iPod owners to take pictures with the device

A Mac-focused site with a mixed track record for predictions claims to have learned details about future iPhone and iPod models, mentioning that Apple is sticking to the current design, as far as next-gen iPhones go, while equipping new-generation iPods with cameras.

The site states that, “We have received couple of informations from one of our sources regarding the future iPhone and iPod,” posting no more, no less than two tidbits. Namely, Hardmac claims to have heard that, “The future iPhone models will have exactly the same shape and size than the current iPhone 3G, despite fakes and rumors circulating.”

Another trail the site claims to have picked up is that, “Apple should refresh models for the iPod nano and Touch in September. Both should now include a camera, similarly to the iPhone.” Aside from the iPod touch, the fourth-generation iPod nano is likely a candidate for the refresh, although revamped models of the widescreen classics should not be ruled out either.

Having made these claims, Hardmac has garnered the attention of other Apple-focused publications, including that of AppleInsider, which notes “some inaccuracies in Hardmac's earlier batch of rumors,” however, “adding a camera to the iPod touch may be a logical step for Apple, in that it would nearly double the market for camera-related applications on the App Store set to explode following the release of next-generation iPhones, which will include video recording capabilities as one of their biggest features,” the site outlines.

Softpedia notes

As mentioned above, we would also believe Apple has reasons to implement cameras on at least one iPod model, most likely the iPod touch. Should the company wish to beef up fourth-generation nanos with a camera, designers will probably not envision simply carving a hole in the device, as depicted in the image to the left (courtesy of AppleInsider), but rather add extra design elements to blend the lens with the back case.

As for the upcoming iPhone, yes, it should stick to the current shape and size and only add the rumored extra storage, magnetometer, better connectivity, and the tons of software enhancements promised by Apple in OS 3.0. More battery life is always welcome and Apple has surely been working on that as well.
