A while ago, Amy Winehouse, that foul-mouthed, tattoo covered British chick, and with a reputation that would make even anyone 'jealous', released a second album, after a very long hiatus. Since that moment and despite the fact that she continued to cancel appearances on account of, well, why not say it?, being drunk, Amy's 'Back to Black' attracted more and more fans for the jazzy singer.
OK, maybe now would be just the perfect time to explain to you who Amy Winehouse is: she is a British singer with a sound the world hasn't heard for quite some time now, impressive vocal skills, heartfelt lyrics and a very moving beat. She is also the woman famous for the way she always says what's on her mind, who swears like a truck driver and has more tattoos on her hands than a sailor. Amy also likes to drink (a lot!) and, in the past, she did drugs, of which she claims she is now clean.
However, such negative things that relate only to Amy's personal life should not influence the way people perceive and receive her music. Truth be told, this is the only thing that could ever redeem her in the eyes of her fans because, despite disappointing them in more than one occasion, they always come back to her, probably because of her nasal, almost addictive, voice.
Miss Winehouse is now gearing up to conquer the US - her second album, 'Back to Black', was released here this week, after spending several weeks as the number one in the UK charts. Meanwhile, the lady of scandal, as she has been named back home, also released a single with a brand new video in England. We can safely say that we're disappointed by none!
The track 'Back to Black' is exactly what one would expect from such an artist as Amy is: the chocked song of desperation and deceit, it reveals a more vulnerable side of her, the bad-ass, who comes off as the abandoned one in a failed relationship. Heartbroken and not able to live without her 'man' anymore, she goes 'back to black'. So, don't be amazed to see that the video for the single is channeling the same negative feel, unlike what we usually get to hear and see on music television.
The clip, shot in the UK at the beginning of February, shows Amy dressed all in black (and almost looking like a lady!), attending the funeral of her own heart. While for some the joke 'They should have buried her liver, not her heart!' is way too easy, I say we should (for once) forget about Amy Winehouse - the public person. Why should we mind or care that she's a drunk or a trouble maker? She doesn't. Even more, she doesn't even pretend to be a role model... Let us focus instead on her music. I mean, when you come across such talent, you can make an exception, can't you?
Below is the video. Sit down and listen, then see for yourselves if Amy is really worth all this fuss around her. As far as I'm concerned, I have made up my mind months ago...
