The College of Cardinals is preparing to elect the new pontiff

The doors of the Sistine Chapel have closed down to tourists just now, a sign that the College of Cardinals is making preparations for the election of the next pope.

The Daily Mail detailed that the last time this happened was in 2005, when a false floor was installed to prevent surveillance through the use of listening devices. A stove attached to the Sistine Chapel's chimney was also used to burn ballot once the vote was completed.

The elections are near, as pre-conclave meetings are underway and a small group of cardinals are expected to join the proceedings.

However, this pontiff election process has not been without controversy, as a man pretending to be one of the cardinals choosing the new pope has managed to infiltrate the conclave. Guards eventually kicked him after noticing he wasn't wearing the proper vestments.

German native Ralph Napierski insists that he is, in fact, a bishop, and has posted a press release on the matter on his website.
