In the video demonstration embedded above, Siri plays a Yamaha Disklavier wirelessly via Wi-Fi and Airplay, complete with moving keys and pedals.

Showcased by the inventor of SmartKEY for Disklavier himself, Craig Knudsen, the solution works by taking a standard MIDI song file and converting it into an audio file while maintaining the MIDI data.

The song is then beamed over to an Airport Express base station mounted underneath a Disklavier reproducing piano. Via a standard audio cable, the audio output of the Airport Express is then connected to the analog MIDI inputs of the Disklavier.

“Then, you simply ask Siri to play your favorite song from your iTunes library, and Siri responds immediately, by making the Disklavier’s keys and pedal move up and down, recreating the performance, including full orchestration,” Knudsen explains.
