Owners of certain games on current-generation consoles (PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) will be able to upgrade to the next-gen editions for the PS4 and Xbox One and retain their multiplayer progress but, according to new reveals, their single-player won't transfer to the new platforms.

Publishers and console makers have revealed in the last few weeks that games like Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, or Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag will be able to easily upgrade their editions for the PS3 or Xbox 360 to next-gen ones for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while keeping their progress in the multiplayer mode intact.

Their single-player progress, however, won't be transferred, according to Kotaku which has talked with representatives from EA, Activision, and Ubisoft.

No reasoning was given but it could be because the save file structure will be different on PS4 and Xbox One.
