Infineon Technologies has just announced that they will provide a ULC2 platform as a voice solution for ZTE Chinese Corporation.

The ULC2 platform is based on only one E-GOLDvoice system-on-chip. The technology behind this chip combines a baseband processor, radio frequency transcriever, power management unit and RAM. All these are squeezed in a footprint of only 8 mm x 8 mm reduced size.

"We are happy that ZTE selected our ULC2 platform for their new ultra-low cost handsets addressing emerging markets", said Dominik Bilo, Vice President Sales and Group Marketing at Infineon's Communication Solutions business group. "This selection underlines the market acceptance of our ULC2 platform which offers the highest integration, smallest footprint and best time-to-market.", which makes very practical for being integrated in a mobile phone.

The ULC2 platform will be used on ultra-low cost mobile phones which come equipped with the most basic features as their strong points. These cellulars will have color display and will be capable of supporting polyphonic ringtones and text message services.

The Infinite-Gold voice is the first single-chip that has been released which integrates baseband processor, radio frequency transceiver, RAM and power management unit in digital CMOS technology. E-GOLDvoice has a reduced size and also the possibility of adapting the software package to adopt specific operator requirements.

Moreover, the ULC platform includes a wide range of features. It is capable of supporting dual band RF, EFR/HR/AMR codecs and SMS. Moreover, it has support for Latin languages, Chinese, Hindi, as well as Arabic. Among the extended features, there are ULC FM Radio Phone, Music, VoIP and Bluetooth support.

The Infineon ULC2 platform will start to be used by the most important mobile carriers sometime in the middle of 2007. Vodafone has just announced that it has come to an agreement with ZTE as to sell handsets using this platform.
