Warren Woodford has announced yesterday, November 21st, the immediate availability for testing of the SimplyMEPIS 11.0 Alpha 3 operating system.

SimplyMEPIS 11.0 Alpha 3 brings various small changes since the Alpha 2 release, made available on November 19th. The CD boot issues are now fixed, and various library dependency issues present in the first two Alphas. These bugs were identified by the MEPIS testers.

"It was 8 years ago today that the MEPIS Linux project started when Warren Woodford decided to build a version of Linux that would be easy to try from CD, easy to install from the live environment, and easy for everyone to use. Over the years there have been reports of SimplyMEPIS being the first OS of one year old children, and also the first OS of 90 year old adults."

"Today the third alpha-test release of SimplyMEPIS 11.0 is available in the form of SimplyMEPIS-CD_10.9.80_32.iso and SimplyMEPIS-CD_10.9.80_64.iso files. This test release is for use by the MEPIS Tester Community. As usual, MEPIS alpha-test releases are not expected to be backward or forward compatible with MEPIS final product releases." - said Warren Woodford in the official release announcement.

SimplyMEPIS is a Linux distribution based on Debian Lenny. It features an LTS (Long Term Support) kernel and provides users with upgrades for all important packages. The MEPIS Assistant tools ensure that SimplyMEPIS can be used successfully in a desktop environment.

The SimplyMEPIS OS is created to replace or work side by side with Microsoft's Windows 7, Vista or XP on personal computers, and with Windows and Mac OS X on Apple computers. MEPIS is also available, unofficially, for ARM processors.

The stable version, SimplyMEPIS 8.5, is available for download from Softpedia. The final release of SimplyMEPIS 11.0 will be available somewhere next year!

Download SimplyMEPIS 11.0 Alpha 3 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is an alpha release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
