Three flavors have been made available for the OS

Simplicity Linux, a Linux distribution based on Slacko that uses the LXDE desktop, has reached version 15.1 and is now available for download and testing.

Simplicity Linux is based on Slacko and I can tell you right away that this is not a popular system to use, although it's a very good one. Most other distros use stuff like Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, RHEL, and a few other, but very few developers choose Slackware or Slacko. It's an interesting choice and it has its perks.

As usual, there are a few flavors ready and in this case it's the NetBook, the Desktop, and one that is simply called X. You might have guessed what each one does, but let's clarify nonetheless. The Netbook edition uses cloud applications instead of local ones, making the final size a little bit smaller, the Desktop edition is a complete one, and X is actually an experimental release based on KDE.

Simplicity Linux is not as simple as you think

Even if the distro is based on Slacko, it doesn't mean that it's all that different from everything else. Sure, users will need to learn how to use some new tools, but in the end it's pretty much the same like any other distro out there.

"We are proud to announce the release of our first 64-bit Edition: X. X 15.1 is a 64-bit only release and uses KDE as it’s desktop. Netbook and Desktop Editions are our only 32 bit releases for this cycle. One thing we are particularly pleased to bring you this release cycle is the fact that Simplicity Linux can view Netflix content straight out the box," is noted in the announcement.

A complete list of changes, new features and other fixes can be found in the official announcement. You can download Simplicity Linux 15.1 right now from Softpedia. If you are going to run this latest version, you should consider doing it in a virtual environment, like VirtualBox, for example.
