If you're tired of your straight hair and are looking for cool new ideas on how to style it, give it added volume and radiance, here's a thought: why not make full use of your curling flat iron and try a new, energetic wavy 'do? It's
easy to achieve and makes for a nice change; plus, if you're not happy with the way it looks, you can always give your hair a quick wash and come back to your usual hairstyle. You'll be needing a versatile flat iron which is designed for both straightening and styling, and a little patience – oh, and you'll also be needing a thermal protecting spray or balm, which will keep the heat of the curler from inflicting too much damage on your precious tresses.
So, let's get to work. Step one is to wash and thoroughly dry your hair. Use a volumizing conditioner applied only on the lower half of your hair, all the way down to its tips. Blow dry and apply any anti-frizz serum or spray if you normally use such a product, then add a generous coating of the thermal protecting product you decided to use, in order to minimize the damage produced by the extreme heat. Now that your hair is all set, it's time to get down to the serious part of the business. You will be styling manageable sections of your hair (no longer than 1 to 2 inches), one at a time, starting from the front and working your way round your head. Separate a few of these sections ahead of time using hair clips.
Start with the first section and place the flat iron as close as possible to the roots, in a horizontal position. Use one hand to hold the handle of the iron and the other hand to grab hold of the top of the iron between your thumb and index fingers. Start moving the iron downwards, toward the ends of the lock of hair you're working on, alternately flipping the iron upside down and back again as you continue gliding down. As you flip the iron, you can already notice your hair starting to curl into a delicate wave. Continue styling each section, taking your time at the back of the head, which is the most difficult area to reach in any case. As you work your way through each section of hair, apply a finishing spray to further define and hold on to your waves. Once you've made your way all around, turn your head upside down and spray your newly-acquired waves for added shine. Done!
