Simple Machines Forum (SMF) project released SMF 1.1.16 and SMF 2.0.2 critical security patches to make sure the Internet users who rely on the forum script are completely protected against potential cyberattacks.

Among the resolved issues we find sorting the memberlist by online status, which caused an error in PostgreSQL, and disabling showing spiders, which caused SQL errors in Whois online.

Other problems include using the correct variable for the online list filter, the sanitization of parameters in the package options page and the verification of invalid sort methods in the message index.

Customers who use SMF 2.0.1 can update their forums to 2.0.2 by downloading the patch and by installing it through the package manager. The easier way to deploy the latest version is by checking out the update notifications that should appear in the Admin panel.

From SMF 1.1.15 to 1.1.16 the update process is pretty much the same, but users who currently have older variants can upgrade with the full upgrade packages.
