He's responsible for some of the biggest names now active in the music industry and, by the looks of things, he has no plans of slowing down anytime soon. Simon Cowell has teamed up with Jada Pinkett Smith for a new talent competition. And they're looking for DJs, no less.
For the time being, no other details about the new show have been made available, other than that Cowell's SyCo and the Smiths' Overbrook production companies will handle it.
From statements issued to Billboard, it seems more or less a given that the new show will stick to the same format we've come to know from others of the kind.
“The music mogul's Syco Entertainment has announced a partnership with Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith's Overbrook Entertainment to develop a live, international TV show dedicated to finding the world's next great DJ,” the music magazine writes.
“We have been working on this show for over a year and we wanted to partner with the right people,” Simon says.
According to Jada, the show will harvest a new type of star, putting into the spotlight a new “breed of talent.”
“DJs are the new rock stars, it feels like the right time to make this show. This show will comb the world to find a new breed of talent,” she says.
Come to think of it, both Cowell and Pinkett have all it takes to make the new show a hit.
Cowell, for one, isn't just the man behind The X Factor: he also left his mark on American Idol and Britain's Got Talent, while also steering the careers of Leona Lewis, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson on to the right path.
Jada Pinkett Smith, on the other hand, may have put her music career on hold, but she's still very much involved in those of her two adorable and very talented kids with Will Smith, singer Willow and actor Jaden.
