Simon Cowell's X Factor has been enjoying a lot of success with audiences back home in the UK, despite some bumps in the ratings road, but he might already be thinking ahead, considering a potential replacement for it.

In a new interview cited by the Daily Mail, the music and media mogul hinted that he could be mulling over the idea of coming up with a new show.

Even in its worst days, X Factor is still incredibly popular, but Cowell is aware that this might not last for ever.

He needs to be prepared for the idea that the day will come when it's time to pull if off the air.

“I'd rather fall off the cliff on numbers than deteriorate slowly. We have something in development which could replace The X Factor,” Simon says.

However, he also wants fans to know that he's not considering replacing the show just because it's hit its 10th year.

If anything, Cowell hopes that X Factor will live to see an 11th, 12th and 20th season. Now, that would be proof that a show has legs.

“Most things in music, fashion or TV tend to be across a 10-year period. The great test of success is if you can transcend a decade,” he explains.

“I believe we can do it again if we’re prepared to be brave,” Cowell adds.

Fans of the singing competition must already know that the most recent couple of seasons have been particularly rough in terms of ratings, while fixing rumors also plagued it.

The most recent season was the most disappointing in this respect.

“Last year ratings for the show fell, with a new judging panel that included N-Dubz singer Tulisa Contostavlos, former Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland and Take That's Gary Barlow,” the Mail explains.

Word has it Cowell is thinking of making even more changes for the next season, in a bid to win back the millions viewers who left.
