Musical producer Simon Cowell has a lot of singing to do these days, as he's just welcomed into the world his first son with girlfriend Lauren Silverman. True to his outrageous nature, Simon flew all the way from London into New York when Lauren went into labor, but from all reports he made it out just in time.

Lauren Silverman went into labor early on Friday and that's when Simon got into a private jet and flew across the Atlantic, just in time to witness the birth of his baby boy, who weighed a healthy six pounds and seven ounces when he came into the world at 17:45 local time.

The birth took place at New York's Lenox Hill Hospital on Valentine's Day. Understandably, the first-time-father was very happy and wore a big grin on his face the whole time he was in the hospital, at least according to sources present at the location.

E online reports that this is Silverman's and Cowell's first baby and the music mogul happily bailed out on Britain's Got Talent auditions to witness the birth of his boy. He seems to have had the private plane on standby for a week.

Apart from Simon, also in the delivery room were Lauren's parents who were later joined by her sister as soon as she got wind of the news.

A representative for the couple has confirmed the news. Simon revealed on Twitter that he was going to name the baby Eric, after Simon's father. At first, it was rumored that the couple would name their son Simon, after the father, but now it looks they've changed their mind.

They teased the press back in November when Simon said “Actually, we agreed on a name last night, me and Lauren. I'm not going to say what it is yet, but I'm happy.”
