The development team at Maxis and publisher Electronic Arts announce that they are ready to implement an offline play feature for SimCity in the coming Update 10, allowing gamers to engage with the title without having an Internet connection.

Patrick Buechner, the general manager of the Maxis Emeryville studio, writes in an official blog post that, “We are in the late phases of wrapping up its development and while we want to get it into your hands as soon as possible, our priority is to make sure that it’s as polished as possible before we release it.”

At the moment, the offline feature for SimCity is offered to the volunteers that are part of the DevTester group and the company wants to make sure that no problems exist before it launches the full implementation.

The developer adds, “What’s new is the Single Player Mode, which allows you to play the game Offline by yourself. And because your saved games in this mode are stored locally, you can save and load to your heart’s content.”

More details on exactly how gamers will be able to play in the Offline mode will be offered near the date when Update 10 for SimCity is launched.

Recently, the team at Maxis announced that it was also allowing modding for the city builder, which means that gamers can create and distribute their own content as long as they do not break the integrity of the title or use copyrighted elements from other products.

The offline feature for SimCity has been requested by long-term fans of the franchise since the game was first released.

Maxis says that it has first focused on delivering patches to solve the major issues that the experience had on launch.

It’s unclear how much of the player base for SimCity has stuck with the game so far in order to use both modding and offline mode.
