The development team at Maxis and publisher Electronic Arts announce that they are turning off some of the non-essential features of the newly launched SimCity in order to mitigate the problems that gamers have been having with access to the servers.

A post on the official game forums states that a hotfix is being deployed on all SimCity servers.

The community manager states that it “disables a few non-critical gameplay features (leaderboards, achievements and region filters). Disabling these features will in no way affect your core gameplay experience.”

Electronic Arts reiterates that it wants to improve the experience that players have with SimCity, but it's unclear how the already strained server structure will be able to deal with the imminent European launch of the game.

The rebooted SimCity introduces a new engine, curved roads and more simulation options.
