Owners of the game shouldn't blame Electronic Arts

Maxis, the developer behind the recently released SimCity game, has revealed that the title's mandatory online connection requirement was its staff’s idea, not something imposed by Electronic Arts, the game's publisher.

SimCity came out last week and, while the game is pretty good, the fact that it requires a constant internet connection has caused plenty of problems for Maxis and EA, as many of their servers went down, and for owners of the title, who couldn't actually play it.

Many accused EA of forcing Maxis to add this requirement but the studio's general manager, Lucy Bradshaw, wrote on Twitter that Maxis is responsible for the constant connection and the problems encountered as a result.

"This is on Maxis," she said. "EA does not force design upon us. We own it, we are working 24/7 to fix it, and we are making progress."

SimCity servers are performing better nowadays, but many owners are still quite angry about the whole fiasco.
