A producer working on the rebooted SimCity says that the team is introducing crime-related, economic and natural disasters in order to make sure that players never feel like their city is evolving too fast.

Jason Haber says, “A big part of being a mayor is making sure you manage your budget well. If you have too many expenses and you're spending too much, eventually you'll run out of money.”

The fact that all cities in a region are linked and can cooperate also means that any type of disaster in one of them will affect all the others, with bankruptcy having the potential to end shipments of various goods or work on common projects.

The new SimCity will be launched in early March 2013 on the PC, with an expanded scope and a new engine.
