The development team at Maxis working on SimCity announces that it is currently testing update 10, the big patch for the city builder that is supposed to allow all gamers to play it in full offline mode without any penalties.

The information comes from the Twitter account of the company, but they are at the moment unwilling to announce an official launch date for it.

Maxis has previously explained that it needed to do extensive changes to SimCity in order to make it run fully offline and that its engineers would need time to create update 10.

The studio has also promised that it will deliver a number of bug fixes and balance changes that should improve the overall city building experience.

When SimCity was first launched, a number of fans claimed that its always online nature was not actually required by the game and a mod that allowed players to play on their own was launched.

Maxis and Electronic Arts have always claimed that the online nature of the game was central to its nature because it allowed gamers to collaborate with one another and expand their cities.

A number of patches and an expansion for SimCity have already been launched.
