Electronic Arts will bring the SimCity franchise to the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS this fall, with a title called SimCity Creator.
The company says that, as all SimCity titles released so far, the game allows players to "create, enjoy, and destroy cities".
Both versions of the game will put you in the elegant shoes of a mayor as he tries to create the best possible city on Earth and then face the challenges posed by running it. You get to build homes, factories, parks and special, iconic buildings.
The Wii version of the game will take advantage of the way the
Wii remote works to make zoning your city much easier than before and a special redesigned interface for the series will give players quick access to all the actions that the mayor can perform. There will be thirteen styles accessible for each city, mimicking city styles from Europe and Asia. Apparently, the player will be able to create natural disasters, such as earthquakes, tornadoes, huge fires, which can level an entire city. No word on whether extraterrestrial invasions are possible.
The Nintendo DS version of SimCity Creator will put a different spin on the old city building mechanics by featuring evolving cities, which a player can take charge of in the ancient era and then evolve through the Middle Ages, all the way to modern days and the near future. Players will also be able to swap cities from one to another using the connectivity capabilities of the DS.
Rod Humble, who heads the Sims Label studio, has stated: "SimCity Creator for the Wii and Nintendo DS brings two separate, delightful new ways to create, enjoy and destroy your own cities... I know both long-time and new SimCity players will enjoy these innovative experiences in SimCity Creator starting this September".
The Nintendo Wii and the
Nintendo DS versions of SimCity Creator will be launched in Europe and Asia on September 19, with North America getting a September 22 launch date.
