When we think of smartwatches today, our mind automatically races to wrist-bound plastic-y square accessories that should be used in concert with a smartphone, in order to relay real-time notifications and alerts.

But the “smart” moniker could be applied to a time-piece in a lot of different ways. Start-up Zetsu Lab has just introduced an atypical-looking smartwatch. Why do I say atypical? Well, because the Sim looks like the regular watch you wear at the office.

But underneath it all, the Sim is powered by NFC or Near Field Communication, which will allow users to quickly transfer info by virtue of a simple tap.

NFC’s popularity is currently on the rise, with 2 of 3 smartphones embedding the technology, because let’s face it, it’s extremely useful.

The Sim combines NFC with classic components, including leather stainless-steel casing and rose-gold plating. Sim will connect to you phone, and once this is achieved, you’ll be able to take instant photos and video, tap to share contact list, automatic calls and text, save battery life and even unlock doors, all from your wrist.

The Sim is certainly the odd ball in the smartwatch sea, but it’s an interesting project that is currently up gathering funds on Kickstarter.
