Silvio Berlusconi will become the new president of the AC Milan football club. Although it was pretty obvious that he was the one behind every major decision in the Milan club, he will now be officially named as the President of the club. The Milanese magnate has taken this decision as a consequence of the fact that he finally realized the loss he suffered in the legislative elections a couple of months ago.
Another reason why Berlusconi decided to make it official for AC Milan was because of his desire to clear out the allegations concerning the club that he owns. The current president of the "rosso-neri", Adriano Galliani, is, at the same time, the president of the Italian Football League. And, with the whole scandal concerning the match-fixing at Juventus Turin, Milan may very well suffer from this conflict of interests.
"It's time that we put an end to the conflict of interests present in our club. That's why, since I am in the political opposition for the future period of time, I will step over as the President of AC Milan. Besides, I am the president of the Administration council too, so it shouldn't be any problems here" said Berlusconi yesterday, in a TV interview. He has taken this measure especially since, lately, Luciano Moggi has accused Galliani of "stabbing him in the back" and "taking revenge over a past conflict".
This could be considered one of the good news that Milan fans received in the past few weeks. Let's not forget that, since he came at AC Milan - in 1986 - Silvio Berlusconi can identify very easily with the best Italian and European performances in the club's history: 7 domestic championships (maybe 9, after the final decision in the Juve corruption scandal), 4 Champions League titles, 3 European Super Cups and 2 Intercontinental Cups. These are his overall sporting achievements, which - we have to admit - have brought him a lot of votes and made him prime minister of Italy for many years.
