Microsoft has updated the Silverlight for Windows Phone Toolkit tailoring the developer resources to the next generation of Windows Phone.

Devs can head over to the official CodePlex site for the release and grab the August 2011 release of the Silverlight for Windows Phone Toolkit.

Even with the latest refresh, the Silverlight for Windows Phone Toolkit is still an open source project, available as a free download.

Developers targeting Windows Microsoft’s mobile platform will be able to start submitting Windows Phone Mango applications to the Windows Phone Marketplace soon, possibly as early as next week. In this regard, the availability of the August 2011 release of the Silverlight for Windows Phone Toolkit is no mere coincidence.

“Since the new Windows Phone Marketplace for ‘Windows Phone Mango’ is nearly ready for submission of your apps, developers will be happy to know that today we are releasing the Silverlight for Windows Phone Toolkit (August 2011) add-on. This is a great new release of extra controls and should let you create even better apps with the Windows Phone 7.1 SDK,” revealed Jeff Wilcox, Developer Silverlight for Windows Phone.

“In this toolkit you will find user interface controls like those found throughout the Windows Phone, with components like toggle switches, page transitions, picker controls and more. We have also localized the toolkit into all of the Windows Phone ‘Mango’ languages, since there’s a whole world out there hopefully looking to purchase your apps from the Windows Phone Marketplace.”

According to Wilcox, there is a long list of both improved and new features included in the Silverlight for Windows Phone Mango Toolkit, including: LongListSelector, MultiselectList, LockablePivot, ExpanderView, HubTile, ContextMenu, ListPicker, RecurringDaysPicker, AutoCompleteBox, DatePicker, PerformanceProgressBar, TiltEffect, TimePicker, WrapPanel and others.

But seeing as the Silverlight for Windows Phone Mango Toolkit is an open source project, developers can always contribute to the resource, expanding it in accordance with their needs.
