In the first half of February 2010, Microsoft Live Labs unveiled a new project designed to allow customers to gain new perspectives on large amounts of information. With Microsoft Live Labs Pivot the Redmond company focused on providing filters streamlining analysis of data that would otherwise be extremely difficult to assess due to obfuscation by sheer size alone. A few months later, the software giant is introducing Silverlight PivotViewer, a new release set up to enable web developers to easily integrate data collections into their sites.

”The Silverlight PivotViewer makes it easier to interact with massive amounts of data on the web in ways that are powerful, informative, and valuable. PivotViewer lets us present thousands of things at once and visualize them in a way that exposes value from the group. PivotViewer experiences range in complexity to build. All involve the creation of a collection. PivotViewer is now available for you to begin building and embedding your collections directly onto your webpage,” Microsoft stated.

The Microsoft Silverlight PivotViewer comes with support for Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP. According to the Redmond company, customers will need to have Silverlight 4 installed in order to for PivotViewer to work. In addition, developers can build PivotViewer applications. Microsoft explained that devs will need Visual Studio 2010, Silverlight 4 Tools for Visual Studio 2010, and Silverlight 4 Toolkit in order to get started.

“Adding a Silverlight PivotViewer control to your website is as simple as adding any other Silverlight control to your website. Your implementation of PivotViewer can be as simple as an application that loads a collection and handles links clicked in the Info Pane, or complex as an application that responds to the user’s facet selection and implements on-item buttons,” the company added.
