Microsoft plans to release the next iteration of Silverlight by the end of this week. The Redmond company has confirmed officially that the RTW deadline for Silverlight 4 was set by the end of this week, in an announcement dedicated to the availability of Visual Studio 2010 and .Net Framework 4. Eddie Amos, general manager, Developer Division, confirmed on April 6th, 2010 that Visual Studio 2010, .NET Framework 4 and Silverlight 4 would be launched this week. However, Microsoft was yet to set a release to web (RTW, the equivalent of RTM) deadline for the successor of Silverlight 3. “The company also announced that Silverlight 4 will release to Web (RTW) later in the week,” the software giant stated.

In fact, the Redmond company has already scheduled the launch of Silverlight 4 for tomorrow, April 13th. “Silverlight 4 Launch Event - April 13th at 8:00 AM PST: Live streaming from the DevConnections Silverlight 4 launch. Watch Scott Guthrie's keynote plus interviews with Scott and members of the Microsoft Silverlight and Expression teams,” the details of the event read.

Microsoft offered a Release Candidate of Silverlight 4 in mid-March 2010, at MIX10. Throughout the development process, the Beta and RC stages, all the pre-release builds of Silverlight have been developer milestones. This hasn’t changed even as Microsoft is on the verge of releasing Silverlight 4 to the general public.

“Our customers rely on us to solve for the unique needs of their businesses, and in order to do that, we need tools and technologies that enable maximum efficiency, reliability, integration and creativity,” Peter Duffell, vice president of Strategic Partners at Micro Focus, noted. “Our next-generation developer tools build on the already-proven capabilities of Visual Studio, .NET Framework and Silverlight and expand the value to our customers even further.”
