Silver Spring Adds Nokia Official to Its Board of Directors

Nokia's Head of Mobile Phones Rick Simonson joins Silver Spring Networks' Board of Directors

Leading Smart Grid solutions provider Silver Spring Networks announced today that it welcomed Rick Simonson, Head of Mobile Phones for Finland-based Nokia, to the list of its Board of Directors members. According to the company, Rick Simonson, who previously served as Chief Financial Officer at Nokia, will chair the Audit Committee.

Scott Lang, Chairman, President and CEO of Silver Spring Networks, commented on the new Board of Directors member addition, “We are honored to have Rick join our Board of Directors. His financial experience and international business acumen add strength to our already stellar Board.”

Starting with November 1, 2009, Rick Simonson assumed his role as Head of Mobile Phones at Nokia, and is also a member of the Nokia Group Executive Board. The Mobile Phones unit of the Finnish handset maker accounts for around 50 percent of the net sales of the Nokia Devices & Services business.

Previously, Simonson was Chief Financial Officer at Nokia. He came to the mobile phone vendor in 2001, when he was appointed Vice President and Head of Customer Finance. Besides being a Nokia employee, Simonson is also a member of Electronic Arts Inc.'s Board of Directors, and also serves the Board of Trustees of International House.

“Silver Spring Networks and its utility clients are leaders in the global effort to transform the way electricity is generated, delivered and consumed by building an intelligent, modern grid. With a Smart Grid will come tremendous benefits for consumers, as well as for our environment,” Rick Simonson stated. “I look forward to contributing to Silver Spring’s momentum and its vision to build a more efficient future.”

According to Silver Spring, its Board of Directors also includes names such as Laura D'Andrea Tyson, Economist, Tom Werner, CEO, SunPower Corporation; Ben Kortlang, Partner, Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers; Thomas R. Kuhn, President, Edison Electric Institute; Corbin A. McNeill, Jr., Chairman, Portland General Electric and retired Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer, Exelon Corporation; Warren Weiss, Partner, Foundation Capital Partners; Adam Grosser, Partner, Foundation Capital Partners; and Scott Lang, Chairman, President and CEO, Silver Spring Networks.
