Silicon power has completed its latest flash drive unit, one that trades the high speeds of the latest USB interface in favor of a lower, albeit unspecified, price point, though it has other advantages, particularly physical ones.

When it comes to the flash drive market, one could say that this segment is one that has one of the largest consumer bases out there.

This is because flash drives are such small, easy to carry storage devices, and with such a wide capacity range, that there is something for everyone, more or less.

Silicon Power is one of the companies that makes a living off selling USB sticks, though it also deals in other things.

Regardless, the company did, in fact, make a move in this field not long ago, when it unveiled the Touch 835.

Measuring 35.5 mm x 12.3 mm x 4.5 mm, it does not have the advantage of SuperSpeed data rates, since it sticks to the USB 2.0 interface instead of 3.0.

This means that it will never reach 5 Gbps speeds, but the 480 Mbps limit might not be all that underwhelming, given the storage capacities.

2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB and 16 GB models were mentioned in the official announcement, all of which have a weight of 4.5 grams.

There are, however, some advantages as well, such as the COB (chip on board) technology, which makes it dustproof, waterproof and shockproof.

Prices were not given, but the company did, at least, mention that the drive has a capless construction, with a sandblasted metal casing colored blue. EU RoHS conditions are met and a lfietime warranty accompanies them, plus a SP Widget free download (7 major back-up and security functions).

The press release did not exactly say when shipments will start either, though sooner is more likely than later.
