Companies, have been going out of their way researching, developing, creating and showcasing storage devices that have more and more advanced technologies built into them, such as security features, backup functions or even boot-up capabilities, for months now. Unlike all such HDDs, SSDs and flash drives, however, the upcoming device from Silicon Power focuses less on password protection and more on the physical one, while also bringing a touch of style.

Hardware makers have been working hard on better and newer security technologies for even their smallest USB flash devices, because demand for secure data has been on the rise. Companies were also interested in making sure that their lineups for the recently past CeBIT expo were extensive and varied enough.

Still, the fact remains that only corporate users and a small number of consumers really need hardware-encrypted and password- or fingerprint-protected USB flash drives. The rest just want a small, portable stick that they can take along anywhere and at any time. The latest project from Silicon Power aims to provide just that.

The stylish, new flash device that the company aims to introduce, known as the Touch 830, is enclosed in a stainless-steel casing and measures 35.0 x 12.3 x 3.5 mm. The small stick weighs only four grams and is plug and play compatible. Unfortunately, it does not support the USB 3.0 standard, but this is not a very big issue for lower capacity storage units such as this one, as it comes with 16GB at most. The 830 supports USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports and is colored icy-silver.

Silicon Power will sell its drives along with a lifetime warranty. Unfortunately, there is no information on the price of the products, but they will likely become available by the end of the month, which means that the prices of the 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB models will not stay hidden for long.
