Semi-modular power supply unit uses single +12V rail

Gaming systems are amazing and good looking, but they are also unlikely to sell to more than around one percent of the consumer base, even when looking at the world as a whole. That means that products like the new Silentium PC PSU always sell a lot more.

What Silentium PC has just released is a mainstream power supply unit that combines some of the better capabilities of high-end models with the mild wattage of the mid-range.

The PSU is called Vero M1 and has a capacity of 600W, which should be enough for a full hardware complement, even a nice but not too ostentatious graphics card.

The PSU is semi-modular, which means that some cables are directly soldered to the inner PCB, but some are not.

To be more specific, the motherboard and CPU power cables are soldered, but the ones you would use to provide energy to storage devices are not.

This allows you to choose precisely which cables to use and leave more room inside the PC case otherwise. Good for airflow, since system cooling is always a concern, noisy or not.

Active power facto correction is included, to ensure that the electricity is always stable, or as stable as a mainstream PSU could make it.

The newcomer uses a single +12V rail to deliver energy, with a power of 50 Amps. All common electrical protection circuits are included (short-circuit, overpower, overvoltage, underpower, undervoltage).

As for the cables themselves, the list includes the following: one Berg connector, one 4+4 pin EPS cable, one 24-pin ATX, one 6-pin cable for PCI Express graphics cards, one 6+2 pin cable in case the video board is particularly hungry, six SATA power cables and, finally, three molex.

All this from a 600W PSU. It's good that the efficiency is high enough to earn 80 Plus rating. It means that less than 20% will be wasted during operation.

Availability and pricing

Unfortunately, Silentium PC did not see fit to disclose this information, meaning that all we can do is wait for retailers to list it before we can tell how good a buy it really is.
