If you think this year's Halloween won't feel the same without an installment of the “Saw” franchise, which ended in 2010, no need to worry. “Silent Hill: Revelation 3D” has been picked up for US distribution and, hopefully, it will be able to fill the gap.

“Revelation” is the sequel to the 2006 film which was, of course, based on the insanely popular video game.

Because the original film got mixed reviews from fans, production on a sequel was repeatedly delayed. Now, many months after it started shooting, the film is done and has a distributor, The Hollywood Reporter says.

“Open Road Film has picked up all US distribution rights to Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, a sequel to the 2006 adaptation of a Konami video game,” THR says.

“Open Road has scheduled the film for an Oct. 26 release, hoping to catch the Halloween crowd. The move set the film to open a week after Paramount releases Paranormal Activity 4,” adds the same report.

As fans of the genre must already know, “Paranormal Activity” is not the kind of competitor one can easily ignore, but this could mean that Open Road is confident in the success of “Silent Hill.”

All previous 3 “PA” films have made a killing at the box office, even though some fans believe the franchise has lost some of its initial luster in the most recent installment.

In other words, “Silent Hill” needs to be good to make an impression at the box office, when up against “PA.”

“The new movie reunites original cast members Sean Bean, Deborah Kara Unger and Radha Mitchell. New to the cast are up-and-comers Adelaide Clemens (X-Men: First Class) and Kit Harington (Game of Thrones). Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) directs,” THR further says.

The original 2006 film grossed $97.6 million (€74.2 million) worldwide.

An official synopsis released a while back promises even more scares than before, as well as a plus of drama.

“For years, Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand,” it reads.

“Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever,” says the same.
