The game needs to resist the addition of shooter mechanics

Tomm Hulett, a former developer for Konami, believes that the Silent Hill series of survival horror games can make a triumphant return, despite the limited impact of the most recent releases, Book of Memories and Downpour.

The developer, who is now working on a secret project with WayForward, says that he always tried to maintain the purity of the series rather than resort to cheap commercial tricks to make it a success.

Hulett tells Destructoid in an interview quoted by NeoGAF that he has always rejected shooting mechanics for Downpour and that he never wants to see Silent Hill become a clone of Dead Space, the title from Visceral Games and Electronic Arts.

It’s unclear whether at the moment Konami has any Silent Hill video game in development or whether a new title will only be introduced for the next generation of consoles.
