Sigma has just revealed to the world its latest creation, the dp Quattro compact camera series, featuring a new and improved Foveon X3 Quattro CMOS sensor that uses new color separation technology to deliver better image quality than traditional Bayer sensors.

Recently, Japanese website Egami discovered a new patent that reveals a new Foveon sensor with improved dynamic range thanks to the placement of special highlight pixels on the surface of the sensor.

Thanks to this arrangement, the new Foveon sensor will be more sensitive to light, allowing you to capture high-quality photos at high ISO settings even past ISO 3,200. It's not clear if the patent is for the current-generation Foveon X3 packed in the new dp Quattro compact camera series or for a future Foveon sensor.

The recently announced Sigma dp Quattro camera series features a 29MP Foveon X3 Quattro CMOS sensor and three fixed lens choices with a 35mm focal length of 28mm, 45mm, and 75mm.
