Engineering and electronics company Siemens has announced that, in an attempt to “trick” more people into going green by switching from relying on fossil fuels for energy to embracing renewables, it will try to lower the costs of offshore wind power production.

According to CleanTechnica, the company is confident that, in the following 7 years, it will succeed in cutting the levelized cost of energy for offshore wind power by as much as 40%.

“This means that starting as early as 2020, we will offer our customers technologies that allows offshore wind power to be produced for less than 10 euro cents per kilowatt hour,” Siemens Wind Power CTO Henrik Stiesdal reportedly said in a statement.

In order to achieve this goal, Siemens will have to figure out ways to make it easier to manufacture and install offshore wind turbines. What's more, it will have to increase the output of turbines meant for the open sea and make them lighter.
