Siduction, an operating system based on the Linux kernel and the GNU project with applications and programs from the Debian unstable branch, for the 64-bit architecture, is the first distribution that adopted the new LXQt desktop environment.

Siduction uses many packages from the development branch of Debian and the developers are always implementing new features that sometimes are just on the bleeding edge. This is just the case with the new LXQt desktop environment that was just launched a few days ago.

“We are very happy to present to you today, straight from LinuxTag conference in Berlin, the first integration of the shiny new desktop environment LXQt into a distribution image. This is clearly labeled as a Dev-Release, so do not trust it, it might kill your kittens, although the developers of LXQt flagged it as being beta status.”

“This means that Siduction is actually the first Linux OS that has implemented the new LXQt solution, but this is a development release and it’s not something that users should adopt for their day to day operations,” said the developer in the announcement.

The LXQt desktop environment was made available a few days ago and, even if it’s at version 0.7, its makers assured users that it’s getting ready for mass implementation.

LXQt is the result of the cooperation of two teams, LXDE and razor-Qt, which joined their forces to make a better desktop environment. The Linux community has gotten used to the fact that developers usually fork packages when they want a new thing, but it turns out that there is a better way.

In the case of LXQt, the opposite thing happened. Two teams decided to work together in order to develop a new product that should be better than anything they could have made had they remained separate.

Siduction LXQt is based on Linux Kernel 3.14-3, which is one of the newest versions available right now. This is quite normal if we take into consideration the fact that most of the packages and applications that have been implemented in this version are very new.

Check out the official announcement for a complete list of changes and updates. You can download Siduction LXQt right now from the official website. Keep in mind that only the 64-bit version is available.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
