Star-studded thriller will be director’s last theatrical release

Steven Soderbergh has been having a very successful and packed couple of years, but he’s getting ready for retirement as director. Above is a trailer for “Side Effects,” which is poised to be his last theatrical release.

After “Contagion,” “Haywire” and “Magic Mike,” Soderbergh has become the go-to director in Hollywood to bring to life a project that aims to stand out from the rest.

“Side Effects” will certainly be no different, though it has more in common with “Contagion” than with the other two.

Starring Rooney Mara in her first post-“Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” role as a young woman who turns to medication to cope with her husband’s (Channing Tatum) return from prison, the film seems more of a thriller than a drama.

Jude Law plays her doctor, who takes a more personal interest in her. Catherine Zeta-Jones is also starring in a supportive role.

“Side Effects” will be out in the US on February 8, 2013.
