The turns will ask gamers to balance risk and reward

Sid Meier's Starships was announced just a few months ago, but it seems that the development team at Firaxis has moved fast and the space-based strategy title is set to be launched on both the PC and on iOS devices on March 15 of this year, with gamers able to get access to it for 15 dollars or Euro.

The information comes from Pocket Tactics, which has obtained it from the studio, and the company is also ready to offer some more details about the core gameplay mechanics of the title.

Sid Meier's Starships will be turn-based, but it seems that it will break with the traditional way the Civilization titles have used the core elements of the series.

The developers are allowing players to use the fleet that represents their interests in the galaxy, which will remain unique as the game progresses, to take on and solve more than one mission during one turn.

But with each interaction and each battle fought, the crews that work on all those ships will get tired and their ability to actually accomplish their tasks will diminish.

This means that players in Sid Meier's Starships will have to balance the actual power of their fleet to reach an objective with the needs of their factions and will have to decide when to issue a shore leave order, which ends their turn and allows the other sides to act on the galactic map.

Sid Meier's Starships is focused on choices and tactical battles

The concept for the shore leave is designed to introduce a new set of risk and reward situations, but the game will also feature more familiar elements, including opponents which are modeled on the various factions that players have already dealt with in Civilization: Beyond Earth and on the ideologies they can adopt.

The game will feature complex tactical battles, with maps that constantly change conditions and fire weapons that can be influenced by the positioning of celestial bodies.

Firaxis has announced that it is aiming to create a link between Beyond Earth and Sid Meier's Starships and that those who own both will be able to see interactions between the two titles.

UPDATE: The company has confirmed the date and the price of the coming game on its official Twitter account, so get ready for Starships on March 12 for 14.99 dollars or Euro.
